We begin monitoring our patients’ molar development once their adult teeth begin to come in. This way, if it is necessary to remove any wisdom teeth, we can do so before the roots have fully developed.

As the roots grow further into the jawbone, the tooth extraction itself becomes more difficult. In addition, the healing process may be longer with a greater chance for complications.

But those older patients who never had their third molars removed need not worry. It can be done safely and comfortably later in life as well. Just remember, the sooner these troublesome teeth come out, the fewer complications you can expect.
